DAY 01: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Drive from Arusha to Tarangire national park about 2 and half drive,Tarangire national park covers 2,600 square kilometers and is on the traditional migration route of several species of the wildlife. At dry times, the concentration of animals in Tarangire rivals that of the much better known Serengeti. Herds of migratory wildebeest, gazelle, zebra and buffalo gather along the marshy shores of Lake Natron. These pools are shared by flocks of birds: green wood hoopoes, fisher lovebirds, tallish herons, white bellied go-away birds and giant kingfishers. Resident lion, giraffe, elephant, and black rhino are common at any season; Tarangire is noted for its baobab trees and splendid vistas of rolling savannah and acacia woodland. The strange-looking, centuries-old baobab trees are believed by the Maasai to be the first tree in creation. Dinner and overnight at Panorama campsite.

DAY 02: Panorama camp to Ngorongoro Crater then Arusha

After breakfast is at day break before you drive into the crater. The Ngorongoro crater is the largest unbroken and unflooded caldera in the world and will fascinate you with unbelievable wildlife diversity. On the grass steppe and in the acacia tree woods you will find almost all species found on the east african savanna; with the exception of Topi, Masai Giraffe and Impala. Quite often you can observe the “Big Five” lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinoceros and leopards within a couple of hours. After an extensive wildlife tour and a picnic you will leave the caldera in the afternoon and drive back to Arusha.

Day 01:

The first day climb is to Mandara Hut (2,743m). From the park entrance, to which transport from your hotel is arranged, the climber enters the rain forest. It is a 3 hours walk to the first hut, through verdant scenery. The forest teems with bird life, and Colubus and other monkeys may be seen.

Day 02:

The second day trek is to Horombo Hut (3,760m) is about ten miles and takes 5 to 6 hours. About half an hour after leaving Mandara hut, the climber emerges from the rain forest onto alpine meadow. This is very pretty day, with splendid view possible of the two peaks and of the plains below the mountain. The vegetation is also quite spectacular especially higher up, where giant lobelias and scenes may be seen. Higher still, the vegetation becomes thinner, and the effects of altitude, commonly experienced shortness of breath, may begin to be felt.

Day 03:

On the third day, the climbers will hike for 2 hours to Zebra rock for acclimatize then back to Horombo Hut for overnight.

Day 04:

Climbing continues to Kibo Hut (4,730m), which is at the foot of Kibo peak. The route takes the climber up to saddle between the peaks of Kibo and the Mawenzi, and then across the high altitude desert to the hut. Again, the climb takes about 6 hours.

Day 05:

This day in the morning, you will be back from the summit at Uhuru peak (5,895m). Climber return to Horombo for overnight.

Day 06:

Then descend to Marangu Gate where the vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel (Moshi town)

A wonderful way to relax on one of our safaris through Northern Tanzania’s most famous national parks and conservation areas. We offer a great deal of safari itineraries to suit any schedule. All our safaris use well-maintained Toyota Land Cruisers or Land Rovers TDI, with roof hatches for unobstructed and up-close game-viewing. Our safari itineraries include all park fees, an English speaking driver/guide, meals and lodge accommodations. Price per person varies depending on group size.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National park

Today we drive to Tarangire National Park, for excellent game viewing. Tarangire is a small park which offers some excellent sights. Generally in the dry seasons Tarangire comes alive as wildlife and birdlife congregate on the Tarangire River, which is a permanent source of water. Later noon drive to Panorama campsite for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Tarangire to Ngorongoro crater

We start the day with an early morning game drive before heading to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ngorongoro is a special place in that it is a Conservation Area, not a National Park; this means that the whole area is managed for both the animals and the local Masai people who graze their cattle alongside the indigenous wildlife. During the drive in Ngorongoro we have a chance to glimpse something of the Masai way of life. After stopping at the entrance gate, where there is a chance to learn more about this fascinating volcanic landscape, we will drive around the rim of the Crater itself, and from here we can look down and see the herd of wildebeest or buffalos. Finally we descend into the crater. The crater walls provide a natural sanctuary for the animals, which means there is plenty to see: lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino and leopard (if you are lucky). The only animal you won’t see in here is a giraffe, whose long legs are unable to cope with the steeps sides of the crater. In the late afternoon we make a short journey from the crater to Panorama campsite for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Ngorongoro crater to Lake Manyara National Park

Today we drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game drives. This is one of Tanzania’s smaller parks but still offers a rewarding and diverse safari experience. The lakeshore at Manyara teems with birdlife, and while you are looking for the birds, you might spot one of the elusive tree-climbing lions. There are a surprising number of other large mammals and the striking cliffs on the Rift escarpment form a dramatic backdrop. In the late afternoon will drive to Arusha.

DAY 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park covers 2,600 square kilometers and is on the traditional migration route of several species of the wildlife.

Dinner and overnight at Panorama camp.

DAY 2: Panorama camp to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast drive to Serengeti national park will welcome with plains of Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti National Park is the second largest park in Tanzania and is about the same size as Hawaii. The whole day is devoted to you to observe the wildlife in the Serengeti National Park. The areas that you will visit depend upon the location of the herds. Fluctuations in precipitation can affect the animals location from year to year, however your guide will know the exact location of the animals and the best vantage spots.

You will overninght at Seronera campsite.

DAY 3: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast you will continue your tour of the Serengeti National Park. In the Seronera Valley you can watch the wildebeest, zebras as well lions and other big cats such as leopards and cheetahs. After lunch at a picnic place you will slowly drive in the direction of the Ngorongoro Crater. On the way you will pass the Olduvai Gorge which became world known due to the archeological work of the English research couple Leaky. In the sixties here they found the oldest remains of prehistoric man and in a small museum nearby their work is documented (a visit is optional).
As soon as the crater’s edge is reached you will have a superb view into the caldera.

Overnight at Simba Campsite.

DAY 4: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

Breakfast is at day break before you drive into the crater. The Ngorongoro crater is the largest unbroken and unflooded caldera in the world and will fascinate you with unbelieveable wildlife diversity. On the grass stepp and in the acacia tree woods you will find almost all species found on the east african savanna; with the exception of Topi, Masai Giraffe and Impala. Quite often you can observe the “Big Five” lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinoceros and leopards within a couple of hours. After an extensive wildlife tour and a picnic you will leave the caldera in the afternoon, later noon drive back to Arusha.

We offer unique safari itineraries to suit customer requirements. All our safaris use durable, well-maintained Land Cruisers or Land Rovers, with roof hatches for unobstructed and up-close game-viewing. Our safaris include all park fees, an English speaking driver/guide, meals and lodge accommodations. Price per person varies depending on group size.

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Arrive Kilimanjaro and transfer to Arusha at your Hotel/Lodge. The rest of the day is free to relax and recover from your flight, laze by the pool or explore the town.

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Today we drive to Tarangire National Park, for excellent game viewing. Tarangire is a small park which offers some excellent sights. Generally in the dry seasons Tarangire comes alive as wildlife and birdlife congregate on the Tarangire River, which is a permanent source of water. We spend the night in our lodge beautifully set inside the park with stunning views and a unique atmosphere. Dinner and overnight at Panorama campsite.

Day 3: Tarangire to Lake Manyara

Today we drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game drives. This is one of Tanzania’s smaller parks but still offers a rewarding and diverse safari experience. The lakeshore at Manyara teems with birdlife, and while you are looking for the birds, you might spot one of the elusive tree-climbing lions. There are a surprising number of other large mammals and the striking cliffs on the Rift escarpment form a dramatic backdrop. In the late afternoon we make a short journey from the park to Panorama campsite, for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Lake Manyara to Serengeti

We head towards the Serengeti National Park. En route there is an opportunity to visit Olduvai Gorge. It is within this steep sided ravine that Louis and Mary Leakey made some of the world’s most important archaeological discoveries in the 1950s. Here in a small museum we are able to see evidence of our ancestors that have been dated back 2.5 million years. After lunch we drive into the Serengeti itself and the rest of the afternoon is spent game viewing in the vast plains that are broken only by stands of acacia trees and the occasional kopje. In December, January and February we will normally meet the migration with large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle. There are always plenty of resident animals, such as giraffe, buffalo, and elephant, and many large predators such as lion, cheetah, and leopard. Dinner and overnight at Seronera campsite.

Day 5: Serengeti

We have another full day in this wonderful park, rising early to make the most of our time. Our guides will choose the best spotting locations for the time of year; we can spend time at the Hippo pool watching these majestic animals laze about in the cool water happily living alongside the crocodiles, watch a big pride of lions, be in the middle of the migration, sometimes surrounded by wildebeest, sometimes by zebras, which travel with the wildebeest. We journey from the wide open plains to the kopjes: these volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals and from the top we can look out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti. This diverse and interesting landscape will provide us with the ultimate in game viewing, we will hopefully see all of the plain games; elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions and it you are lucky the elusive leopard and cheetah, as well as huge amounts of interesting bird life, from the elegant secretary birds to the flightless ostrich. Dinner and overnight at Seronera campsite.

Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

In the late afternoon we travel to Arusha.

Budget camping safari Itinerary for 5 days trip to enjoy our greatest game sanctuaries in Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and Tarangire Manyara National parks.

DAY 01: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Morning breakfast at Arusha, safari briefing and afterwards we depart for Tarangire National Park. Your first experience of safari will be the thrilling game drive through the vastness of Tarangire National Park, arriving at a good time for lunch. Afternoon game driving through the park. Overnight at Panorama camp.

DAY 02: Safari in Lake Manyara National Park

After a full English breakfast we leave the lodge and proceed to Lake Manyara for a full day game view. The park is highlighted with lots of these trees and the tree climbing lions which are often spotted taking afternoon siesta on the branches. Other animals common in this park include the impalas, giraffes buffaloes and impalas. Just at the entrance of this beautiful park is an underground water forest and a perfect habitat for the Blue monkeys, the baboons, bush bucks and the gigantic elephants sheltering in the sheds from the afternoon sun and devouring the green branches and twigs and herbs. The Hippo pools and at Lake Manyara itself you will get the chance to observe the Hippos and the aquatic birds including the colorful Flamingoes, pelicans, Egyptian geese, cormorants, and many more. You will take lunch at one of the picnic sites in the national park. Overnight at Panorama camp

DAY 03: Panorama camp to Serengeti National Park

We proceed to Olduvai Gorge, known as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’. It was here, in the Great Rift Valley, that the remains of early hominids dating back 2 million years were uncovered. Afterwards, we visit the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world – Serengeti National Park. The word ‘Serengeti’ means ‘endless plains’, which describes the park’s 5,600 square mile boundary. Yet for its sprawling area, the Serengeti does not disappoint when it comes to rich game- viewing. The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest on earth. Overnight at Seronera campsite.(In the central of the park)

DAY 04: Safari in Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation area

We embark on an encore game drive in the expansive Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti boasts one of the most varied collections of wildlife on the planet. Annually, from May to December, millions of animals embark on a migration which brings them from central Serengeti to Kenya’s Masai Mara and back again in an incredible spectacle. Even during the ‘down-time’, vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle roam here, along with groups of elephant, giraffe, and buffalo, as the lions, leopard, cheetah, hyenas and jackals stalk their meals.

We depart from the Serengeti to visit the largest intact volcanic crater in the world, the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. At more than 2,000 feet deep and 12 miles in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. 30,000 animals make their home in this crater, making it an ideal place for sightings of the ‘big 5′ – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. This truly world-class attraction is also known as the ’8th Wonder of the World’. Before your permit expires it is time to drive out of The Conservation Area and drive to Simba campsite for dinner and overnight at Simba campsite.

DAY 05: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

Breakfast is at day break before you drive into the crater. The Ngorongoro crater is the largest unbroken and unflooded caldera in the world and will fascinate you with unbelieveable wildlife diversity. On the grass step and in the acacia tree woods you will find almost all species found on the east african savanna; with the exception of Topi, Masai Giraffe and Impala. Quite often you can observe the “Big Five” lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinoceros and leopards within a couple of hours. After an extensive wildlife tour and a picnic you will leave the caldera in the afternoon and drive back to Arusha.

Habitat: Montane Forest

Drive from Moshi to the Umbwe Gate. Commence the climb through the rain forest with packed lunch on route. Dinner and overnight at the first encampment at 2800 meters (9186 ft).

DAY 2: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp

2800m to 3900m; 9200ft to 12,800ft

Walking Time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Semi-desert

After breakfast, we leave the glades of the forest and follow an ascending path on the open moorland to the Barranco Hut located at 3900 meters (12,795 ft). Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

DAY 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

3860m to 4200m; 12,700ft to 13,800ft

Distance: 7 km

Hiking Time: 4 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite.

DAY 4: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

3860m to 4600m; 12,700ft to 15,100ft

Distance: 13km

Hiking Time: 8 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, through the Karanga Valley (4200m / 13,770 ft), and the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue to the Barafu Hut. You have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position.

DAY 5: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut

4600m to 5895m (and down to 3100m); 15,100ft to 19,300ft (and down to 10,200ft)

Distance: 7km ascent / 23km descent

Hiking Time:6- 8 hours ascent / 7-8 hours descent

Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit

Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am),, we continue our way to the summit. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point (5685m / 18,652 ft), you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting).

From Stella Point, you will encounter snow all they way on your 2-hour ascent to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, we have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit.

It can be very cold at night at these elevations, but it will be quite warm by the end of the hiking day. You will want clothing for both extremes with you.

From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon.

Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep. Beer and soda may be available for purchase at the Mweka Hut — the only location on this route.

DAY 6: Mweka Camp to Moshi

3100m to 1830m; 10,200ft to 6000ft

Distance: 15 km

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Habitat: Forest

After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).

From the gate, continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to hotel in Moshi. Don’t forget to tip your guides and porters. It is time for celebration!

Day 1: Mti Mkubwa Camp

2250m to 2790m; 7380ft to 9160ft

About 2.5 miles/3-4 hours

After breakfast and briefing, drive to Londorossi Park Gate (2250m / 7380ft, 2.5 hours). From here a forest track requiring a 4WD vehicle leads to Lemosho Glades (2390m / 7830ft, 11km, 45 minutes) and a possible campsite (park fees are not paid to camp here). Walk along forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (big tree) campsite.

Day 2: Shira 1 Camp

2750m to 3500m; 9160ft to 11,500ft

About 5.5 miles/5-6 hours

After breakfast, we continue as the trail gradually steepens and enters the giant heather moorland zone. Several streams are crossed then it gains the Shira Ridge at about 3600m / 11,810ft and drops gently down to Shira 1 camp located by a stream on the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp

3500m to 3850m; 11,500ft to 12,600ft

About 2 hours

After breakfast, a gentle walk across the plateau leads to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. A variety of walks are available on the Plateau making this an excellent acclimatization day.

Day 4: Barranco Hut

3840m to 3860m; 12,600ft to 12,700ft

About 5-6 hours

From the Shira Plateau, we continue to the east, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 4876 meters / 15,997 ft. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 3860 meters / 12,664 ft. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

Day 5: Karanga Hut

3860m to 4200m; 12,700ft to 13,800ft

About 3-4 hours

After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley (4200m / 13,780 ft) campsite.

Day 6: Barafu Hut

4200m to 4600m; 13,800ft to 15,100ft

About 3-4 hours

After breakfast, we leave the Karanga Valley and pass the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue to the Barafu Hut, which is located ant an altitude of 4600 meters (15,092 ft). You have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position.

Day 7: Summit – Mweka Hut

4600m to 5895m (and down to 3100m); 15,100ft to 19,300ft (and down to 10,200ft)

About 7-8 hours up / 4-5 hours down

Early morning, we continue our way to the summit of Uhuru Peak at 5985 meters (19,636 ft). This part of the climb takes about 6 hours. It can be very cold at night at these elevations, but it will be quite warm by the end of the hiking day. You will want clothing for both extremes with you. At Uhuru Peak, we have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site at 3100 meters (10,171 ft). This part of the descent takes about 5 hours. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep. Beer and soda may be available for purchase at the Mweka Hut — the only place on this route.

Day 8: Moshi

3100m to 1680m; 10,200ft to 5500ft

About 4-5 hours

After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to your hotel. Don’t forget to tip your guides and porters. It is time for celebration!
